Localizing [kju:]

prolog

Q is ready to be translated into you language. And it's quite easy! We only keep standardized nibs in the English.lproj folder. All other languages are created at buildtime, by injecting the transalted .strings into the standardized nibs. The .strings files should always be UTF-16 oldstyle property lists (not xml).

prerequesites

create a new localization

  1. run "./update_localization.sh" in the folder "q"
  2. copy "q/qcontrol/Resources/English.lproj" and give it the corresponding name (newLanguage.lproj)
  3. copy "q/host-cocoa/Resources/English.lproj" and give it the corresponding name (newLanguage.lproj)
  4. remove all the .nib files from q/qcontrol/Resources/newLanguage.lproj
  5. copy all the .strings files from "updatedLocalizationStrings/English.lproj" to "q/qcontrol/ResourcesnewLanguage.lproj"
  6. translate the .strings files in both newLanguage.lproj (only translate the sentence after the "=", see other languages as reference)
  7. add "newLanguage" entry to "q/qcontrol/Makefile" and "q/update_localization.sh"

update a localization

If the standardized nibs where changed, you can update your strings files with a special Q tool

  1. run "./update_localization.sh" in the folder "q"
  2. copy the necessary .strings files to "q/qcontrol/ResourcesyourLanguage.lproj"
  3. add the new translations to the .strings files
